Audit Senior | St Albans or London | £50k-£60k

Are you an experienced Audit Senior looking to join an established, progressive accountancy practice where you can take ownership of audits from planning right through to completion?

We’re recruiting for a fantastic opportunity within a well-established, mid-sized professional services firm. You’ll join a busy Audit department working with a varied portfolio of predominantly owner-managed businesses across a broad range of sectors.

This is very much a hands-on Audit Senior position, so we’re looking for someone already operating confidently at Senior level who can hit the ground running. You’ll plan, lead and complete audits, work directly with clients and support junior members of the audit team. The role is heavily audit focused, with an approximate 90/10 audit-to-accounts split.

What’s in it for you?

  • Salary of £50,000 – £60,000, flexible depending on experience

  • Hybrid working arrangements

  • Flexible working with 10am–4pm core hours

  • Workplace pension with 4% employer contribution

  • Health cash plan following probation

  • Life assurance at 4x salary

  • Holiday trading scheme

  • Interest-free season ticket loan of up to £4,500 following probation

  • Access to an online employee benefits and discounts platform

  • Long-service awards

Key responsibilities:

  • Planning, leading and completing audit assignments from start to finish

  • Conducting audits at client premises and from the firm’s offices

  • Preparing financial statements under standards including FRS 102, IFRS and Charity SORP

  • Preparing accounts for non-audit clients, including Limited Companies, LLPs, Partnerships and Charities

  • Preparing corporation tax computations

  • Completing audit files accurately and within agreed timescales

  • Reporting progress and developments to the relevant Manager

  • Liaising directly with clients and identifying potential improvements to their accounts functions

  • Reconciling control accounts and identifying necessary adjustments

  • Leading audit teams on-site and supporting junior colleagues

  • Reviewing junior audit work and providing feedback

  • Monitoring assignments against budget

What the employer is looking for:

  • This role would suit an established Audit Senior rather than someone looking to take their first step up into a Senior position.

  • Strong previous experience working at Audit Senior level

  • ACA qualification or equivalent experience

  • Candidates awaiting final results or still studying may also be considered where they can demonstrate significant experience already operating at Senior level

  • Strong experience of planning, leading and completing audits

  • Audit and accounts experience with owner-managed businesses

  • Experience gained within a mid-tier or similarly sized accountancy practice

  • A predominantly audit-focused background

  • Experience leading audit teams and supporting junior colleagues

  • Strong knowledge of auditing standards and accounting principles

  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills

  • Confident client-facing communication skills

  • The ability to manage multiple assignments and work to deadlines

  • CCH Audit Automation and CCH Accounts Production experience would be advantageous but isn't essential

You’ll work across a varied portfolio of large, medium and smaller clients, with audits primarily taking place across London and Hertfordshire, alongside some UK and international clients. A driving licence would therefore be useful, although it isn’t essential.
