A really exciting opportunity for an experienced Finance Manager to join a dynamic online retail company who are going through a significant period of growth, based in Hemel Hempstead.

You will join a friendly team of two consisting of a Finance Director and a Bookkeeper. You will have overall responsibility for the efficient running of the accounting function for the business, liaising directly with and supporting the Directors of the company.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious, driven and motivated Finance Manager to join a dynamic and growing company whose turnover has more than doubled over the last 4 years. You will be working with passionate Directors with a clear vision for the future to become an established and trusted brand, known for good quality products.

Key responsibilities:

Management Accounts

  • Monthly variance review, investigating discrepancies

  • Post monthly journals including recharges, salaries, stock costs, prepayment and accruals

  • Detailed review of the monthly management accounts investigating discrepancies

  • Preparing detailed monthly financial statements, to include profit and loss accounts, balance sheet, variance analysis and commentaries, within 10 working days of month end

  • Present finance summary at the monthly board meetings

Budgets & Forecasting

  • Preparing detailed annual, quarterly and monthly profit forecasts

  • Implementing and monitoring processes and procedures for the creation of monthly forecasts

Accounts Receivable & Bank Reconciliations

  • Ensure all bank reconciliations are kept up to date

  • Clear all payments received against each customer and chase any overdue accounts

Cashflow

  • Review cash position weekly & finalise monthly cash flow prepared by Accounts Assistant with budget & other ad-hoc income/payments

Payroll

  • Processing monthly payroll

Regulatory including audits

  • Preparation of year-end file for Independent Accountants to produce yearly financial statements for HM Revenue & Customs and Companies House purposes

  • Review and submit the preparation and submission of the UK VAT returns

  • Assisting the businesses Accountant with the preparation of the European VAT return

Safe Guarding Assets

  • Safeguarding tangible and intangible assets

  • Continuous review & robustness of procedures

Ad-hoc duties

  • Assisting rest of finance team with AR, AP & other related tasks including reconciliations, posting invoices, sales & journals

  • Offering professional judgement on financial matters

  • Sign off POs related to online department where budgeted

  • Sign off payments related to standard business operation

  • Carrying out any necessary research, analysing it and concluding on the information

  • Provide necessary management information to assist decision makers within the company

  • Liaising with other managers to put the finance view in context

  • Any other projects/duties of a financial matter that occur from time to time

What the employer is looking for:

  • CIMA or ACCA qualified

  • 3-5 years Finance Management experience

  • Experience from a product based company is preferable

  • Excellent, confident communication skills

  • Flexible, enthusiastic and self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Ability to be discreet and professional at all times

  • A team player who can upskill other team members

  • Ability to explain complex financial information in a clear way

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets

  • Whilst not essential, experience with Xero and Payroll Money Manager would be beneficial to your application. Interest in the e-commerce sector would also be valuable.
