St Albans is teeming with small and medium sized companies and the statistics show that there are a higher number here than in almost any city in England! Our reach extends to Hertfordshire and south of Bedfordshire too.

Hybrid working has really taken off locally and many roles are offering the chance to work partly at home. If this is important for you then you have a better chance of securing this request now than at any other time. It is a wonderful time to look for a new job as there is so much choice available and a shortage of people, hence the demand for candidates with skills and experience.

In fact, in our 15-year history we are finding that this is one of the best times to look for a new career. We have registered more jobs since January than we did during the same period in 2019.

You may remember 2019 was a fantastic year for business, but this year so far has been even better!

Why are we short of candidates?

When we eased out of lockdown last year, almost all jobs that had been put on hold during the pandemic were released. We have had an amazing bounce back from the lockdown and this has resulted in companies growing quickly and needing staff to fuel the expansion!

Secondly, many people from Europe returned home in the pandemic and they are not coming back.
Thirdly, there has been a higher than normal percentage of people taking early retirement.
In addition there has also been a hesitancy to change roles during the period of uncertainty. We are hopeful this will change as we ease back to normality.
